Iceland. It’s a land that evokes raw beauty, where landscapes of black sand beaches and stoic mountains tell tales as old as time. And it was here, at the breathtaking Stokksnes, that a spontaneous couples session unfolded, one that would birth my all-time favorite images.

When an unexpected opportunity arose to style and lead a session for a workshop in Iceland, I had to pivot quickly. My instinct was to fall back on things that set my artist’s soul on fire. As a triple Earth sign, I feel a deep connection to the natural world, and nothing thrills me more than styling that incorporates rich, earthy tones.

With a stroke of luck, I had recently thrifted some stunning pieces, hoping for a “just-in-case” moment. Little did I know their destiny was in this ethereal land. The couple was styled in textural, muted hues that mirrored the landscape perfectly while maintaining a distinctly Icelandic aesthetic. I wanted them to feel woven into the rugged beauty of this place, a part of its story while shining in their own right.

And the weather…the weather was a true collaborator. Fog draped the scene in a muted light, a quiet kind of drama that added a cinematic softness to the images. We braced the cold together, knowing that the discomfort would yield an ethereal beauty impossible to replicate anywhere else.

The couple themselves were magic. Their movements were fluid, their energy a beautiful mix of editorial and candid, allowing for images that breathed with the rhythm of the Icelandic landscape. It felt less like posing and more like witnessing a silent film unfold.

Looking back, this session feels like a gift, a reminder of the magic that can unfold when you pair preparedness with the willingness to trust your instincts in the moment. It’s a reminder to embrace your passions, how those elements woven into your work become an unmistakable signature.
